The West Bank Union at the University of Minnesota was established in 1967 to offer services to students. Tau Beta Pi, a national engineering honor society, was founded in 1885 by Dr. Edward H. Williams Jr. at Lehigh University to recognize students of "distinguished scholarship and exemplary character."
